Frequently
Asked Questions
How easy
are the card models to make?
The models do
require some skill to build, as well as patience, but they should
be within the capability of anyone who has some experience of modelling
or a similar form of handicraft (building plastic kits, for example).
We have rated the difficulty of each model on a scale of one (easiest)
to three (hardest). This gives an indication of the skill level
required to successfully build each one. Some of the harder models
have small or complex parts which require manual dexterity to build,
but the easier models tend to be fairly straightforward and involve
scoring, cutting, folding and gluing of relatively simple parts.
It is vitally important to follow the instructions, to have the
right tools, and to be patient. Please note that the models are
not suitable for children and are intended for adult modellers only.
How long
does it take to build a model?
This is not
an easy question to answer, as construction time depends a lot on
the size and complexity of the model, and the experience and skill
of the builder. However, we reckon on around an hour for each A4
sheet. So a model with two sheets of parts will probably take around
two hours to build, and so on.
What is the
best type of glue to use?
We highly recommend
using PVA glue. It is cheap, easy to use, quick drying and washes
off in water. It works well with the card stock we use and makes
a very good joint when dry. Other types of glue can be used, but
contact adhesives are not recommended, as you will almost always
need to make some adjustments to the positioning of parts before
the glue dries. Never use "super glue" formulas, as some
leakage of glue is inevitable, and it will get on your fingers during
construction.
Why are some
models not available in the smaller scales?
Some models
contain small parts that can be handled in a larger scale but not
in a smaller one. Because of this, the range of models is not identical
in each scale, but we do aim to provide a good selection in every
scale that we support.
